Orchestra Instruments

Orchestra instruments are a large range of music pieces that are used to create the incredible symphonic sound that has come to be known as an orchestra. This basically the biggest and most versatile band you’ll ever find, which includes a large array of different musical pieces such as strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion pieces. Played together they can encompass one the greatest ranges of music around that has largely been associated with Classical music or music used to accompany films. These are the prototypical genres, but these instruments are still used to compose many modern pieces that are exciting and beautiful to hear.

It’s no surprise then that interested in this genre and the instruments used to play it have not waned in recent years. Most people are introduced to these instruments as part of a school band program when they are growing up, however just because you didn’t have this, doesn’t mean that you can’t play one of these instruments today. One of the best parts of getting into this area of music is not only the immense spread of music styles and pieces available to you, but also the fact that you can select a huge number or instruments and sounds that you enjoy and feel comfortable playing.

An orchestra is organized around creating a large body of sound and so employs not only a number of instruments, but also a great number of the same type in order to create a smooth, but large, cohesive sound. Chief among these is the violin. This string has one of the largest ranges of sound, allowing it to match several moods and go along with many different instruments. In addition to this the woodwinds, such as the clarinet and the flute, are used for the same purpose. Backing these main groups up are the more distinct brass instruments like the trumpet and French horn. These sections are smaller in number, but because of their force, still provide a huge amount of support and distinction as part of the group.

Behind all of this is the percussion section. This is the smallest section, mostly only requiring a single player for each instrument and involves a huge spread of different percussive devices depending upon the piece of music.

For anyone, interested in learning these instruments, there are a large amount of programs available to help you get started learning about music and learning to play a specific instrument. These often coincide with an orchestra program so you can the excitement of playing with so many people.
